Zanetta, the newly appointed vice president of advancement, started work on Monday. Zanetta is the former executive director of external affairs at the University of Southern California's School of Business Administration and an alumni of Cornell University. Zanetta was recruited by a national search firm. He said he became enthusiastic about the vice presidential position after, "I met with Dr. Ash and sensed his vision for the College." He continued, "My view of that vision is taking a school that has a very outstanding academic program which is not perceived as strongly as it really is, and making it more visible." Zanetta also said that President Ash along with other top administrators demonstrated their committment to academic leadership, quality and excellence. When asked why he was attracted to a small college like Whittier as opposed to a larger school, Zanette replied, "You can stay at a 1 arger university and be a part of it, but at a smaller college you can have a greater impact. I think that is a challenge and that Whittier is an exciting place to be." As Vice President of Advancement, Zanetta will be responsible for planning, organizing and implementing a five year campaign to greatly expand the College's endowment which is currently close to $25 million. Zanetta's goal is to increase the endowment to the level that it is, "competitive with other highly selective liberal arts colleges." He noted that Pomona Public Relations Joseph M. The individuals do not carry Whittier business licenses and are therefore not allowed to sell door to door. They are also trespassing on college property, Malone said. An incident took place on Saturday Jan. 23 between the solicitors and Campus Safety. The previous day Campus Safety had stopped three solicitors and warned them that if they were to return they would be cited, according to Malone. On Jan. 28 the three individuals were spotted in a residence hall and when confronted by Campus Safety began to run. One person was arrested and turned over to the Whittier Police Department. The individual was an employee of Thoroughbred Sales #09. The suspect was "cited out," took off campus and a citation was written for trespassing Whittier Police Department, according to Officer Chuck Drylie. Karen Glisky, the General Manager for Summit Publishers Service, said that they are the clearing house for many independent contractors, including Thoroughbred Sales #09. She explained that they receive the orders, process them and send them to the publisher. They also take messages for the company, which has no permanent address, according to Glisky. Glisky did say that anyone who purchased a magazine from Thoroughbred Sales #09 and the order was sent to Summit Publishers and will receive their magazine. Thoroughbred Sales #09 was unavailable for comment. According to the Better Business Bureau of Houston Texas, where both companies are based, Summit Publishers is a recommended company.
