In the event of rain, the voting tables will be moved into the CI hallway in front of the CI. The Poets finished 1-8 in their first season under Kirk Hoza. pg 15 ELECTIONS Brown, Fujimoto to Campaign Again in Run-Off Race for ASWC Presidency ► When none ofthe candidates in the three-way race for ASWC president received a majority of votesjuniors Brian Brown and David Fujimoto emerged as the top two. The ASWC president for 1995 will be decided next week in a run-off election. by SYLVIA SEGOVIA QC Staff Writer After the polls closed for the Council of Representatives election for president, vice president and secretary this Tuesday, only two of the three positions were filled. With 433 votes cast, the election had a fair turnout as compared to previous years. Steven "Wally" Rosales ran for the position of secretary unopposed. This is the second consecutive year that the position of secretary has been unchallenged. Nathan Goetz was victorious _ in the vice-presidency election. No presidential candidate obtained a majority vote in the election and, according to the Constitution, a candidate must receive the majority of votes plus one in 1 Michelle Taulfesl/QC Pholo Edilor Brian Brown order to win an election. Receiving the most votes, juniors Brian Brown and David Fujimoto will have to campaign yet again for the presidency of ASWC. The candidates will also meet in an open forum today at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Union.A runoff election will be held next Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 21 and 22 at the mailroom between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.. In addition to the run-off election, the election for the At-Large positions will be held concurrent- April Lake/QC Pholo Edilor David Fujimoto ly. During this election, four candidates will be chosen to represent the students ofWhittier College. After the election, three candidates received violation penalties. Brian Brown received four, while Nate Goetz and David Stimler each received 10. The penalties were taken finanically and no votes were taken away. According to Julie Lippincott, the election board chair, overall the "elections have been great. Candidates have taken responsi- ► For related articles .about the election results, please see page S bility for their campaigns and there have been a lot less violations as a result." Reuban Rodriguez, COR advisor, felt that the "elections have gone very smoothly and the election committee handled everything very well." According to some observers though, the election was not so smooth. In addition to posters remaining hung after the election deadline and near the ballotbox, some were accused of "suggesting" candidates to unsure voters while in front of the ballot box. Once discovered, the possible violation was remedied by the presence of Rodriguez. (vimes; ■ :■■■ ■ ■'■.-'■ The Poet women's Cross Country team became the first Whittier women's team to ever qualify for NCAA National Finals in any sport. Pictured from left to right are senior Tara Barnhart, senior Helen Garcia, sophomore Heather Backer, junior Sara Stockman, freshman Olivia Gonza.es, senior Andrea Talbott, and freshman Koree Karr.
