QC Advertising Manager Yohanes Fadillah, QC Editor-in- Chief Amber Hollingsworth, Michelle Vincent and Rachel Heiligman were also nominated to serve on the senior Homecoming court. Joining the senior court at the ceremony were the royalty from the first-year, sophomore and junior classes. Jenny Trang and Papa Kofi Baffour were the junior class representatives. Juniors Ashleigh Kruger, Fallon Shelly, QC Sports Co-Editor Allison Roth, Victor Heibert, Robert Ortega, Terry Lin, QC Sports Photo Editor Dustin Ray and QC Sports Photographer Jeff Lee were also nominated to represent the junior class. Fitting with the "Hollywood Stars" theme, the King and Queen were revealed as the three nominee pairs unwrapped a board, only one of which contained "walk of fame" style handprints. The purple prints were immediately visible on Artinian and Fox's board as they pried away the yellow covering. "I thought to myself, gee golly gosh, this is like early in the morning after that first cup of Folgers... nothing comes closer to home," Artinian said. The ceremony was similar in style to that of last year, with Assistant Professor of English Sean Morris reading a short profile highlighting each court member as they strolled down a runway lined with a flurry of colorful balloons. Each couple stopped halfway down the runway and got just a tad funky in time with the music. Before the Homecoming Court ceremony, the cheerleaders and dance team each gave two minute performances. "I think it went really well, especially for one of our first performances. I'd give thanks to Program Board," said sophomore cheerleader Amethyst Polk. Ten "contaminated" students were hosed down in their bathing suits, outfitted in plastic wrap and transported to the Whittier Community Center for "decontamination." Executive Director of Human Resources and Administrative Services Jan Meredith sent out an email thanking volunteers for their efforts, which stated that the drill "helped us reinforce our knowledge of emergency preparedness." "This drill was a joint effort between the City of Whittier, the Whittier Police Department, the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Rio Hondo Red Cross," said Red Cross worker Randy Thompson. The Athletic Center parking lot was closed Monday night and was set to reopen to students Tuesday afternoon. Meredith also wants students to know that the announcements made during the drill that the water on campus should not be used, were not true but part of the drill and that "campus water is fine and you are able to drink the water." NEWS YOU CAN USt The Council of Representatives appointed seniors Todd Spanier Off-Campus Representative and Britni Sternquist Member-at-Large during their meeting Monday, Oct. 6. These appointments come ten days after these two candidates were struck from the voter ballot due to ineligibility. According to seniorCOR President Zach Winters, these two candidates were the only applicants for each position, as all the other candidates pulled out of the race.
