Page one, May 16, 1971 Senate Declares Cosby President Southwestern Singers to Tour California The 46 - voice Southwestern Singers of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary of Forth Worth, Texas, will present several programs of sacred music according to the schedule below. The singers are under the direction of Robert L. Burton. The concert will include a representative sampling of music which has been in man's religious experience from the sixteenth through the twentieth centuries. Music ofthe poly choral and con- certato style is represented by Giovanni Gabrieli, Hammer- schmidt, Sweelinck, and Gibbons. From the wealth of choral literature written during the Baroque and Classic period, two composers will be presented— Handel's "Sing Unto God" and Haydn's "Grant Us Thy Salvation." Including the traditional hymns and folk hymns of the church, the choir will sing "Immortal Love, Forever Full", "I Will Arise and Go to Jesus," "Sing My Soul," and "Alleluia! Sing to Jesus." The twentieth century current church music scene is represented in the psalms and motets of composers like Beck, Pinkham, and Ron Nelson. A special feature of the literature to be presented will be a larger work by Norman Dello Joio, entitled Years of the Modern. This particular work finds a relevance to the current scene and challenges man not only to show his love to God, but also to his fellow man.
