Gov. Jack Williams Governor To Arrive On June 4 Governor Jack Williams of Arizona, commencement speaker, will arrive at Riverside Municipal airport at 3:30, June 4. Met by Riverside Mayor Ben Lewis, the governor will be presented with a key to the city at the airport. Accompanied by his wife Vera and their security guard, he will arrive in a private plane and be in Riverside at the Mission Inn until June 7. Dr. James Staples encourages all CBC students to meet the governor at the airport to welcome him and his wife to Riverside. Commencement Ceremony Honors 107 Graduates With graduation nearing, both Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremonies will be held next week. 107 seniors will graduate. The Baccalaureate Service, to be held at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church on Friday, June 4, at 7:30 will feature Doyle Phillips, father of Jan Phillips and pastor of Cypress Avenue Baptist Church in Carmichael. Speaking on "And Now Therefore . . .," Rev. Phillips was second vice president of the State Convention last year. Presenting the scripture reading and prayer will be Dewey C. Squyres, Pastor of Lone Star Baptist Church of Lockney, Texas, and father of student Dewey Squyres. The Benediction will be given by Travis Lawrence, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Ukiah and father of La Juan Lawrence. Robert Brainard Pear sal I Robert Pearsall Joins English Dept. Robert Brainard Pearsall will join the English Dept. this fall. Pearsall comes from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas where he has taught since 1967. He received his B.A. from the University of Puget Sound, Ta- coma, Wash, and his masters and Ph.D. from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. He has taught at such colleges as Eastern Michigan University, Spellman College, Georgia, Sacramento State College, and the University of Texas. Pearsall has published several books and a number of articles for professional journals.. His interests include arts, sports, church school teaching and writing. Harold Hendricks, father of Robert and Carolyn Hendricks and pastor ofthe First Southern Baptist Church of Corona, will read the scripture and lead the prayer. Janna Longshore, vice- president of the class pf_ 1971 will introduce the Senior class to Gov. Williams and senior Frank Hall will present the class gift -- a small prayer chapel. The Benediction will be brought by William Hall, chairman ofthe Board of Development. Singing will be the Concert Choir under the direction of Curtis Cheek. Student Team Announced For BSU Summer Work The first of three summer student service teams has been announced by Joe Cutsinger, BSU director. Paul Warren, Preacher; Stan Buchanan, Music leader; Nancy Peavler, Forum Leader; and Ed dy Merino, pianist will leave June 14 and be serving throughout California for ten weeks. Traveling through Carmichael; Palmdale; North Coast; Shasta and Sierra' Butte Associations, the team will concentrate primarily on Northern California. Paul, from Ojai, will be a senior next yeaF. Stan is from Manteca and will also be a senior. Nancy, a sophomore next fall, is from North Edwards. Eddy, a graduating senior from Imperial Beach, went one previous summer in lVoS. wVMmnivimimmmmtGi, Student Affairs Committee Meets The Student Affairs Committee has been meeting regularly for several weeks. They have been discussing the student handbook and various dorm policies. "Effort is being made tore- vise the Student Handbook and clarify some of the statements we already have in it, to make the handbook more meaningful Alumni Host '71 Senior Breakfast The Alumni Association of California Baptist Col lege will honor the 1971 graduates at a breakfast on June 5, at 8 a.m. at the San Jacinto Room of the Y.M.C.A. Riverside. Reservations must be made by Wednesday, June 2 in the public relations office or alumni as- soc, room 277. All seniors are honored guests. Other guest tickets are S2.25. Phil Tilden, director of Public Relations, will be the master of ceremonies. The Rev. Doyle Phillips, baccalaureate speaker, and Gov. & Mrs. Jack Williams of Arizona will be attending. to students and faculty, T. Brown. said O. The members of the Student Affairs Committee include three administrators, Dean Brown, Mr. Barnes and Mrs. Carleton. It also includes three faculty members, Mrs. Thompson, Dr. Roddy and Mr. Marler, and three students, Diana Is be 11, Merrill Smoak and Rick Pribbernow. The students on the committee are the two dorm presidents and the A.S.B. second vice - president. There are two sub-committees under the Student Affairs Committee composed of five students from each dorm. Last week the dorm subcommittees suggested to the Student Affairs Committee that the women's dorm curfews be changed. The proposed changes were: Weekdays -- 1st semester freshman - 10:00. 2nd semester freshman- seniors - 12:00. Weekends -- Everyone - 1:00. Dean Brown said, "I expect the committee to take favorable action on the proposed recommendation." If these new hours are passed, they will go into effect in the fall and will be published in the 1971- 72 Student Handbook. All have served on weekend student service teams and will receive $350 for their work this summer. "I hope to have two other teams ready to announce early next week, but we need more students to apply as preachers," Cutsinger said. Steve Holden has been appointed as the first BSU Missionary supported totally by CBC and will assume duties as a youth director and Bible School teacher in Aiea, Hawaii on June 5. Serving at the Trinity Baptist Church, he will also train other young people in mission work. Steve attended the Win School at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church last week and will gain further training in attending the Associational Vacation Bible School Clinic with the Summer Student Service Team. Steve is a Sophomore and is involved in the Drama Trio.
