Former Baptist Pastor Leaves Books to CBC by Milford Cooper The library of the late Dr. Walter A. Pegg has been willed to the Ministerial Alliance of California Baptist College. The books that are not used by the students ofthe Ministerial Alliance will be turned over to the library ofCalifornia Baptist College for usage. Those that the library has no need for are to be sold. The proceeds will be used for benefit ofthe library. Dr. Pegg served in churches in California, Washington D.C, and Nevada. Most recently he had served here in Riverside at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church. It is hoped that the ministerial students will, with the aid of their advisor, Dr. Jack Roddy, fulfull the hopes and dreams of Dr. Pegginextendinghis ministry through them. Dr. Roddy will notify students when these books come in. Jones was honored last Thursday at the annual Trustee - Faculty Dinner. Dean Jones has retired as dean of CBC. He will be taking a one semester sabattical leave. During this time he will be studying in Tennessee, and upon return will be teaching history here. Dean Jones was presented with two very nice gifts in his honor. A bookof remembrances, with one dollar bills between the pages, was presented by the faculty and administration. The trustees presented him with a handsome, three-piece set of luggage. Testimonials were given bv Dr. Lawrence E. Nelson ofthe CBC faculty, Mrs. Gene Thompson of the trustees, and Dr. Andrew Tucker representing the Convention. Entertainment for the banquet included two songs by Dr. Curtis Cheek, ofthe music department. Also on the program was Mrs. Lily Pan-Diehl, also of the music department, who plaved a piano solo entitled "Toccata". A History ofEdu- cation" was presented by "Freddie", a "friend" of Phil Tilden. The benediction was given by Dr. James R. Staples, president of the college. Diana Isbell, Homecoming Queen 1970-71, crowns a surprised Pam Alexander of IJkiahs" ^successor for 1971-72 during Homecoming ceremonies. — 1 hoto by Harvey Uster For Life* To Attract 'Spokes'men Wheels will be turning for clean air, land, and water on Sunday, March 12, when "Bike For Life" is held in six southern California locations. People's Lobby, a grassroots environmental organization, is sponsoring the rides to raise funds for a media campaign in support of the Clean Environment Act. The proposition, described as "A crackdown on air, land, and water polluters," was qualified for the ballot through the initiative process; by volunteers gathering over a half-million signatures of registered voters throughout the state. The Clean Environment Act will be submitted directly to the voters in this June's primary election. The six locations of the rides are: Los Angeles; the San Fernando Valley; the Long Beach area; Orange County; the San Gabriel Valley; and San Diego. "Bike For Life" routes are each approximately 40 miles long, but participants may pedal any distance they wish. Each of the routes have been broken up into 6-8 checkpoints.- The rides begin at 9 a.m. and the riders can start from the checkpoint nearest their home and proceed from there on the established route. Similar in operation to the annual "Hike For Hunger," the cyclists will obtain "sponsors" who will pay them an agreed sum for each mile covered. Proceeds will be contributed to the Clean Environment Act campaign. Participating cyclists are asked toobtainas many sponsors as possible. In order to facilitate this procedure, "bike cards" will be used by each of the cyclists. The cards contain a map of the route, list of the checkpoints, space to list sponsors, amount pledged per miie, and complete information ofthe ride. Riders carry the "bike cards" on their trek and will stop at the various checkpoints for validation of mileage. "Bike cards" are available at all high schools, colleges, and most bicycle shops throughout Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego Counties.
