Janeen Bolinger, Marsha Noe, and Yuan Par Young add their artistic touches to the effort. _ ,, --Photo by Greg Fell Collins Installed As CBC Dean By GALE WISEMAN ". . .to continue to build, grow, and provide an environment in which all of us can be sensitive to each other," was how Dean Gary Collins summarized his goal as California Baptist College's Dean of Student Affairs, during his installation address. Although he has already been serving as dean, Collins was officially installed Friday during chapel. Dr. James R. Staples introduced Collins stating that he is a 1963 graduate of C.B.C. holding a B.D. from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, and an M.A. in sociology from Loma Linda University. He has served as a pastor, dean of men, associate dean of student affairs, and this year replaced DeanO.T. Brown as the present dean of student affairs. After a prayer lead by Dean Stephen Carleton, the Le Chanteuses brought the special music under the direction of Mrs. Helen Walker. Dr. Staples then presented Dean Collins as the chapel speaker. The audience expected the usual "Dr. Staples distinguished members of the faculty and administration. . ." address, but Dean Collins caught their attention with his first words, "I don't have a formal address as such." He explained that when asked how he likes his job he is "always hesitant to reply because it may depend on what's happening at the time. . ." SPEAKING TONIGHT at the Dinner Rally will be Bishara Kawar, Veronica Frederick, and Chema Udeh. Business Club a chance to exercise their muscles before their table duty after tonight's dinner. They are (left to right) Yuan Par Young, Marty Best, Dave Iverson, and Wayne Terry. --Photo by Greg Fell Dean Collins proceeded to discuss how he feels about and why he has accepted his position. He used an amusing anecdote to illustrate that "much of education, much ofthe processes of education, although they may be important are not necessarily vital." He thereby emphasized the need for depth in education and the development of sensitivity to other people. He said, "It is my feeling that education involves the total person. That's what my office is supposed to be all about." As he continued to stress the need for awareness to individual's needs, Dean Collins said, "Although every person can not be affirmed as a friend, every person can be affirmed as a per- While introducing the need of being responsible as well as sensitive, Dean Collins discussed promise keeping and roles. He said, "As a student be very careful; don't hide behind your role. As an administrator, I'll try to be careful; I'll try not to hide behind my role." In summary Dean Collins said, "Our approach, or idea, our philosophy is redemptive. . . My goal is to see a campus that would develop wholistic persons equipped to handle the problems of life." He stressed the fact that a person can only become whole through the love of God. Dean Collins closed the installation-chapel program with a prayer. Music Groups, Foreign Students To Be Featured By Carmen Sandoval Students, faculty, and administration have been planning and praying for this dinner rally tonight. Student volunteers have helped by mailing invitations through the Office of the Board of Development, under the direction of Ed Packwood. Circle K, the men's service club assisted with the parking tonight. K-ettes, the girl's service club set the tables and made posters to make the students aware ofthe rally. Business club will be clearing the tables after the rally and assisting in the clean-up. Les Chanteuses will be providing background music and repetoire. Their patriotic med- -fey-tncludes "America theBeau- tiful," "God Bless America," and 'This Is My Country. "Trouveres will sing, "Let's Get On," and "America the Beautiful." Both will sing the "Battle Hymn of the Republic." The Brass Ensemble will play "The Battle Hymn ofthe Republic." A parade of countries will follow the musical numbers. One foreign student from each country represented on the CBC campus will introduce themselves. They will be in native costume. The students are: Manuel Cabral, Dominican Republic; Veronica Frederick, Pakistan; Enrico Giorgio, Ethiopia; and Bishara Kawar, Jordan. Also Hyung Nam Kim, Korea; Ana Kong, Peru; Ricardo Lobato, El Salvador; Ronaldo Martinez, Nicaragua. Others include: ElIieNaghshin- eh, Iran; Elizabeth Ngan, Hong Kong; Peter Obado, Kenya; Eze- kiel Okoya, Nigeria; and Miguel Olmedo, Puerto Rico. Also participating are: Cesar Olmos, Bolivia; Julian Riklon, Marshall Islands; Jareet Tabari, Israel; and Chaing Thipphonapraphas, Thailand. Rounding out the list is: Liong-Shong Tsai, Taiwan; Danny Tuck, Canada;Chema Udeh, Nigeria; and SumikoUshiban, Japan. Chema Udeh, Veronica Frederick, and BisharaKawarwill bring their testimonies following the parade of countries. 'This Is America" is the title of the program produced under the direction of Mrs. Hokett and narrated by Edwin Collier, an alumnus of CBC. The reason for this program is to show that the true spirit of patriotism and a closeness to internationals can only occur on a Christian campus. Dr. Staples will share with the guests our willingness to serve and be the kind of institution they can be proud of. Dr. J.
