Activities Board Selects Officers The ASB Activities Board held its first meeting Monday at 10 a.m. The first order of business was the election of Al Johnson as chairman protem and Donna Forest as recording secretary. Also the following offices were approved: Charles Perry, Chief Justice; and Jon Lathrop and Carol Iwane, Associate Justices. These make up the new ASB Judicial Board. The Sophomore class. Circle K, and Psychology Club volunteered to man the polls for the ASB elections at the meeting. New charter forms were passed out for clubs. The student body was introduced to the various candidates at chapel last Friday. Each candidate gave a speech at that time. Candidates for the presidency are: Lonnie Halley, Patti Hicks, and Al Johnson. Halley served as business club vice-president last semester and is president ofthat club this semester. Miss Hicks is serving as junior class president and worked as a basketball statistician. Johnson was general chairman for the Focus Week recently observed. Chris Hess and Bob Wilson are running for vice-president. Spanish Students Plan Study Trip The Spanish class under the instruction of Dr. Steve Pallady organized a field trip to Los Angeles this weekend. They plan to visit OlveraStreet, a Mexican market in Los Angeles with displays of typical Mexican goods. They will also visit "Museo de Historia Natural" (Museum of Natural His- Students Enter Contest Four CBC students are entering a speech contest at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this weekend. Bill Rhoads, Carmen Sandoval, Mike Sellers and Jack Tewalt are the participating students. They are preparing a seven to nine minute oral interpretation presentation. It must include at least two selections revolving around a central theme. Rhoads' theme is about war, Miss Sandoval's selections are about deafness. Sellers' presentation is about drug addiction, and Tewalt's is about patriotism. The students were free to select their themes and their actual selections. These students have spent hours researching and writing their introductions and transitions.- Their practice consists of using a tape recorder and the audio-visual machine. As Miss Sandoval said, "I almost sleep PREPARING TO FACE stiff competition at the Speech contest are Mike Sellers, Bill Rhoads, Carmen Sandoval, and Jack Tewalt. with that machine." The students accompanied by their instructor Mrs. Norene Hokett will leave early Friday morning. The contest will conclude Saturday. This is the first time any students have entered competition and it is hoped the participation will continue in the future. Mayor Lewis Addresses Govt. Class Professor Dorothy Argow's State and Local Government Class enjoyed a discussion of Riverside City Government problems with Mayor Ben Lewis recently. Among the significant problems which the Mayor outlined were: Pollution, transportation, human relations, financing ofthe convention center, and the ward system of choosing councilmen. Mayor Lewis is presently up for reelection, and other candidates for the office will also be speaking to the class. tory). The students intend to spend the whole afternoon there to look at the antiques and to widen and enrich their knowledge. Though this function is organized by the Spanish class students, it is opened to all students who wish to participate. The field trip will take place this Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m. It costs $1 for the gas. Those who are going should obtain a sack lunch from the cafeteria on that day. For further information or sign ups please contact either Dr. Pallady or Ricardo Lobato. Unopposed for the position of secretary is Teresa Holden. Candidates for social chairman are Kathi Connally and Joe Gaines. A new voting procedure is being used in this election. Students must present their student body cards to vote. The card is stamped and the student registers by the student body card number not by his student number. Polls are being manned by the sophomore class, Circle K, and the psychology club. Results of the voting will be published in next week's Banner. Philatelists to Show And Tell In Library For all who are interested in Stamp collecting there will be an informal meeting in the Victorian Room of the Library, Monday evening, March 26 at 7:30. Bring your collections for showing and your duplicates for trading. The library will have on display their philatelic materials. Psychology Club To Aid Others Many people study the occult, and ESP, saying they must study it to understand it so they can be an effective minister. One should understand what's going on in the world in order to help those in need. The Psychology Department wants to help people get to know others, also they want to be able to serve as a source of information about psychology, the prospects, and possibilities in the area of psychology. On March 11, 1973, workshops were held in Los Angeles. Those who went included Sam Vickery, Pam Alexander, Jon Rainbow and Mary McElhannon. ESP, Hypnotism and others were studied. On March 26 in the Alhambra Room at 7:30 these people will share their experiences with the club. Everyone who is interested may attend. There will be a question and answer period following the meeting. Psychology club is planning future programs they hope will be as informative and entertaining. Through these meetings they hope to acquaint others with psychology. Students Sponsor Foreign Orphan The students of the Spanish class are going to adopt an orphan. They will send $12 a month to the World Vision Program to support this orphan. The students now are still trying hard to earn this sum of money. They wish to sponsor a Latin American child. They will take good care of him and write to him often to see how he is getting on.
