Concert Choir Shares®)!) Yrs. of Sacred Music CBC's Concert Choir is preparing to leave on a one week spring tour, traveling throughout California, and Nevada. They will be traveling March 31-April 6, toBarstow, Las Vegas, Bishop, Reno, Sacramento,Clovis, and Visalia. The concert theme is: "200 Years of Sacred Choral Music in America." Along with a performance during the service, they will be able to provide an informal fellowship afterwards, featuring soloists, quartets, and guitar accompanists." Selections include: "Salisburg"; "Ye Tribes of Adam Join"; "When Jesus Wept"; "O Come, Sing Unto the Lord"; "Promised Land"; 'There is a Balm In Gilead"; "Witness"; "Ezekiel Saw de Wheel"; 'The Face of Moses Shone"; "A Canticle of Peace"; "By the Waters ofBabylon"; "Ho- sanna to the Son of David"; "Sing, My Soul, His Wondrous Love"; "Tell Abroad His Rising"; "Inthe Beginning ofCreation";and "Jubi late Deo (Psalm 100)." Concert Choir members include: the director Tom Cleveland, Del- wyn Ballard, Peggy Chute, Lori Cochran, Deborah Jenkins, Nancy Dillard, Richard Hawkins, Deborah Dale, Joy Johnson, Billy Keener, Keith Lyall, Neda Jo Robins, Dan Rowan, Phil Saeli, Debora Sheffield, Rebecca Tillman, Olivia Tustison, Sheryl Vincent, and Raw- lin Warta. $100 Check A $100 check was presented to Mrs. Dorothy Argow by the Inland Chapter of the United Nations Associations. The check is for the use of a CBC student for attending a UN meeting, or some other activity involving international relations. Cal Baptist was awarded this check, because its students have attended the monthly meetings, and provided programs more often than students of any other colleges. We 'SANNERr, ^^"^^ Page 1 March 24, 1975 ^^^^fcj^^^ Seniors To Give Hymnals The Senior Class of '75 has voted to purchase 175 Broadman Hymnals (including racks) for their Senior Gift. The Hymnals are for use during chapel services in the Wallace Book of Life Building. The decision was made during the senior class's semi-weekly meeting held last Monday morning. To buy the hymnals, each graduating senior will be charged $10.00 apiece. The seniors felt that hymnals would be appropriate in that many students aren't familiar with some of the songs sung in chapel services and it will help promote unity of worship. Also discussed at the senior meeting was the annual senior banquet. This year's banquet will be held at Griswold's Restaurant in' Redlands and will hopefully feature Maranatha recording artist Chuck Girard as the featured entertainment. The price ofthe banquet will be $6.00 per person. CBC's Rick Ogston Qualifies m For National Debate Tourney RICK OGSTON Rick Ogston, a Cal Baptist junior, qualified for the national . forensics tournament to be held at the University of Niagara, Buffalo, New York, April 20-25, by placing in the finalsoftheSpring Individual Events Championships held at Pasadena College. Ogston has also been invited to participate in the Fourth Annual National Tournament of Finalists at De Paul University in Chicago, Illinois. Ogston, competing in the junior persuasion division, spoke on 'The Right to Privacy and the Violation of It by the CIA." Three other Cal Baptist forensics team members reaciiedatnii- finals in what has been termed one of the largest tournaments sponsored by the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association. Jerry Hobbs, a freshman, received an excellent certificate for his "The Dilemma of Foster Parents," in the junior persuasion "His Kids" and "Selah" To Appear at Retreat Pub. Admin. Class Attends Special Dinner Students in the Public Administration class have attended a dinner of the American Society of Public Administration. The impact of regional organizations on local government was discussed by the deputy director of the Southern California Association of Government, Mr. Barton Mayer, and Mr. Wesley McDaniel, the director of San Bernardino Association of Government. Mrs. Dorothy Argow ispresident of the association. This association holds monthly meetings and awards annual membership to a student from UCR, Cal State San Bernardino, and Cal Baptist. It is composed of executives in government on the national, state, and local level, and of professors of Public Administration of the Inland Universities. The dinner was held March 20 at the Holiday Inn. "Gifts at Work" will be the theme at the Baptist Student Union Retreat at Hume Lake. The program has two main purposes, to train student leadership for more effective campus programs, and to help students grow in their Christian faith and life. Special conferences and program features geared to discipleship will be offered. "Selah," whose members are Jess Blasongame, Debbie White, Steve Chowning, and Ellen Jones, will be playing at the main sessions. "His Kids" will be giving puppet workshops during the conference periods. Program people include Harry Williams, State Director of Evangelism; Sid Smith, Christian Social Ministries, Director, Los Angeles; and Sam Fort, Director of Student Work, Northwest Convention. Program conference will include Leadership Training for officers and directors, Puppet Ministry, Ministering to Drug Problems, and others to help in ministering on campuses. The election of state officers and the commissioning of SCOPE '75 missionaries will be held. Bethany Bownds and Linda Lea Meyer will be summer mission aries from CBC. The conference site is 65 miles east of Fresno off Highway 180 (near Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Forest). The dates are April 11-13. The cost is $16.00 and sign-ups are in Joe Cutsinger's office. category. Sharon Homan, also a freshman, competing in the junior expository division received an excellent certificate foi her speech on shoes. Completing Cal Baptist's semi- finalists was Darlene Trailor, a senior, who received an excellent certificate for her speech on ballet in the junior expository division. Alma Rhoades also received an excellent certificate for her entry on the effects of children on adults in the junior oral interpretation division. Miss Rhoades missed the semi-finals by one point. In many of the competition areas oyer 100 students were entered. Also competing were Janelle Higgenbotham, novice expository; Sylvonia Sager,' novice oral interpretation; Ruth Sidener, novice oral interpretation; and Al Wagner, novice extemporaneous. Miss Trailor was also entered in the novice communicative analysis division. HIS KIDS will perform at the BSU Retreat at Hume Lake.
