On Friday, Oct. 19, the drama department will present its semiannual Prospective Student Day variety show. Everyone is welcome to make an appointment with Dr. Irving Shaw for an audition this week. Scholarship Deadline Announced This year there are more than 60 students now receiving the California State Scholarship here at CBC. Anyone with a2.05grade average may apply for the scholarship. You must have an S.A.T. test score. For those who haven't taken this test, you may do so Oct. 11. Another main factor is that your family needs must meet the requirement specified by the information sheet. Mrs. Melva Randolph, CBC's financial aid officer, advises every student to meet these few requirements. She urges the students to come in at once to her office and get more information if needed. num- Tentatively planned are bers from Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver!, and My Fair Lady. Also included in the program will be some novelty acts, dramatic readings, and just plain FUN! If you have a desire to express yourself in front of crowds, this is the place to do it. You probably won't see your name in lights (unless it's Edison), but your ego will definitely be satisfied. Be sure and make your appointment for audition today! "Moral Crisis of Our Time" is the theme of this year's lecture program to be held Oct. 10- 11 in the Book of Life Building. The Staley Christian Lecture Foundation has been presenting these sessions annually at various colleges throughout the U.S. since 1969. Speaking to CBC will be Dr. Samuel Dewitt Proctor, professor of education at Rutgers University, New Jersey. Born in Virginia, Proctor is a graduate of Virginia Union University and Crozer Seminary. Some years later he received his doctorate in ethnics from Boston University. He began his career as minister of the Pond St. Baptist Church in Rhode Island. He has also served in many impressive positions at several different colleges. In addition to this, Proctor has worked with the Peace Corps in Nigeria and Washington, the National Council of Churches, and the Office of Economic Opportunity. All incompletes from previous semester (all summer session) must be made up by the end ofthe sixth week of the new semester. Oct. 19 is the deadline for this semester. * * * Applications are available for the Opdyke Scholarship for this semester. If you are a Baptist student from a mountain area, you may quaiify. Applications may be obtained in the Academic Dean's office. An avid traveler, he has toured most of the countries of the globe, among them Russia, Africa, Israel, Egypt, and Eastern Europe. He is the author of numerous books, one of which is "The Young Negro in American 1960- 80," published in 1966. Proctor received the outstanding Alumnus Award at Boston University and the Distinguished Service Award by the State University of Plattsburgh, N.Y. Rehfeldt to Give Concert CBC will be privileged to have Dr. Phillip Rehfeldt, one of the country's finest clarinetists in concert on campus Monday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. in the chapel. Dr. Rehfeldt is a graduate of the University of Arizona and Mt. St. Mary's College. He holds a DMA degree in clarinet performance from the University of Michigan. Formerly a professor at Northern Michigan University, he is presently the Associate Professor of Woodwind Instruments and Musicology at the University of Redlands. Future Chapel Speakers Named Chapel tomorrow will feature Bro. Jerry Craft, an evangelist from Texas. It will be held in Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church. The Staley Lecture for the Oct. 10 chapel will be given by Dr. Samuel D. Proctor, Professor of Make-Up Pic Scheduled Make up pictures for all students, including seniors, will be taken on Monday, October 8 between 10 and 11 a.m. in Hardin Square. Cost is $2.25. Dress for seniors is: Men - Sports coat & tie, Women - Dark sweater (necklace - optional). All other students should dress casual. Alpha Chi To Meet Mon. Alpha Chi will hold a meeting on Monday, October 8, at 10a.m. in the chapel. Plans and ideas for the current school year will be discussed. He has recorded several contemporary works, including Music for Clarinet, II, which is scheduled for release early this month. Among Dr. Rehfeldt's accomplishments is his recent appearance as guest recitalist at the 1972-73 International Clarinet Clinic in Denver. He also holds a research grant from the University of Redlands, which he is using in the area of comparative woodwind performance. Monday night's concert will include works by such 20th century composers as Igor Stravinsky, Michael Hornt, Harold Oliver, and Donald Martino. He will use many of the newly-developed techniques for clarinet, such as multi-phonics, flutter-tongue, and resonance fingerings. One critic describes him this way, "Phillip Rehfeldt does things you may not believe are possible. . .and he does them very, very well." Cast For CSM Play Announced CSM's touring production, "Armour of Light", has been casted, announced director, Randy Bennett. Playing the lead of the Apostle Paul, is Mike Procter. Paul visits the contemporary, middle-aged, family of father, Rick Durst, mother, Cherilyn Maddox, son, Ricky Robbins, and the girlfriend, Teri Wright. The cast will be ready for touring in three weeks. Production possibilities include performances for churches, youth rallys, high schools and college campuses, associational meet ings and civic clubs. It may also be included in an arts weekend revival. "Armour of Light" would share the program with other performing arts groups such as the drama trio and Les Chantueses. The actual touring program will be a package program of music and drama. Other touring members separate from the cast will bring preliminary music and conduct fellowship meetings after the performance. "Armour of Light" is a biblically based play about Paul. The name came from Romans 13:11- 12. Realizing a need for training of BSU officers throughout the state, led Wendei ross, siaie student director to devise this innovative program. FLIP will provide campus leadership an opportunity to communicate with each other about their needs, successes, and failures. Beginning with the philosophy of the BSU program and concluding with committee meetings, FLIP will be an intensive study of the nature and development of BSU's. Ways to organize the program, leadership principles, and how to relate to local churches are the general session topics. Small groups will plan individual campus programs and discuss mutual areas of concern. State committees will also meet during this time. Attending this pilot program will be, Gordon Davidson, Rick Durst, Greg Ellis, Kay Lewis, Song Monroe, Carmen Sandoval, Rick Warren, and Molly Worm- ley. West Parking To Be Tested From today until Oct. 12, parking will be permitted on the west side of the cafeteria during dinner hours, according to Dean Jerry Hendricksen, head of security. 'This new rule will serve as a trial period until the 12th, and if students abuse this privilege, they will receive a parking ticket," said Hendricksen. Other off-limit areas are in the president's parking space, in the vacant lot beside the cafeteria (because the dirt gets into the cafeteria and the air condition systems ofthe library), behind any other cars, and on the curbs in front of the cafeteria, and around Fortuna at any time during the day or night. The fenced faculty parking lot can be used by students from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. and no tickets will be issued.
