We CBANNERys ^^m^r December 3, 1976 Page 1 ^^^^fc^^^^ Yule Festival 1976 "The Everlasting Light" is the theme, the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, the setting, and Friday, Dec. 10, the scheduled date for the event-filled evening ofthe 1976 Cal Baptist Yule festivities. The traditional festival, at which entertainment, dinner and the crowning of Mr. and Miss CBC highlight the program (beginning at 8:15 p.m.), provides a designated evening for all students, faculty and administrators to come together for a night of fellowship and fun. Tickets are on sale at $11 per person and are now available in the Dean of Students office. Climaxing the social event, will be the crowning of Mr. and Miss CBC who are selected on the basis of their contributions to the college and their activities on campus. Contending for the title of Mr. CBC are: David Ayala, Tim Newman, Scott Tracy and Al Wagner. Alma Rhoades, Becky Tillman, Karen Dale and Linda Koontz are vying for Miss CBC. Returning from last year, will be the 1975 title holders, Kristi Giddens and Adrian McDaniel. the very center of Hollywood, is the location of the Ambassador Hotel and will supply the atmosphere for the Yule. The dress is semi-formal or formal - suits and ties or tuxedoes as preferred. Pictures will be taken by Harvey Oster for six dollars beginning at 7 p.m. Those attending are encouraged to arrive early for the event. Ticket holders may also find good food as well as good entertainment on the program. Each wing is responsible for bringing a big bag of popcorn to string. There will be games and refreshments. The guest speaker will be Mrs. Gloria Halley, Simmons Hall Director. Don't miss out on this funfilled event. On Monday evening December6, the coed Christmas party will be held. This party is sponsored by the Simmons Hall Executive Council and will begin at 6:30. There will be competition among the wings to find the best decorated wing. At 7:30 there will be singing by the Christmas tree on the front lawn. Then at 8:30 a program will be held in Simmons first floor lounge with entertainment and refreshments provided. Added to this evening will be community exchange from 9-11. Chapel Choir will be performing Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. in the Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church. Registration The dates for pre-registration for the spring semester are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, December 6, 7 and 8. Current students not on probation are encouraged to pre-register at this time including completing financial arrangements in the Business Office. Students may begin in the Registrar's Office on a first come, first serve basis from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon and 1:30 to 4:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Students pre-registering at this time need not be present on campus during the week of regular registration in February. The musical piece that can be heard that night will be J. S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio. A professional orchestra will be accompanying Chapel Choir, and a few of our instrumentalists will be included in the orchestra. , Four soloists are the only people needed to complete the night of enjoyment. The soloists are: soprano-Rosa Lamoreaux, alto- Beth Ann Von (both female soloists are from Loma Linda), tenor- Max Lyall oftheGoldenGateSeminary, and bass - Bruce Langford from CBC's music department. Chapel Choir, under the direction of Dr. Curtis L. Cheek, is the largest choir on our campus consisting of 75 members. Some past performances of this choir have been at: the Music Director's Retreat and the California Southern Baptist Convention in San Diego. The choir has been preparing for this special night of entertainment for the past few months. The performance is expected to be exceptional as the Chapel Choir goes onstage at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church, Tuesday, Dec. 14at8p.m. JScott Tracy Al Wagner Holiday season arrives Monday Dec. 6th marks CBC's annual Christmas kick-off celebrations. With the holiday just around the corner, carolers and traditional Santa Clauses are popping out all over, and CBC has their's as well. Beginning with a special dinner, put on by Adele and the cafeteria staff, diners will be listening to the beautiful sounds of Rhapsody and Trouveres. After dinner the carolers continue to sing their merry way, along with the brass ensemble, to the apartments, and finally resting their vocal chords at Simmons Hall. While the caroling is taking place, the annual wing Christmas decorations in the women's dorm will be judged by our own official judges. As the evening draws darker (approximately 7:30), the center of attention will be at the front lawn by fortuna, to witness the lighting ofthe giant tree. After 'fellowshippingaround'the tree everyone is invited to Simmons lounge for a devotional by Dr. Charles McKay, music by Davis Hill, and refreshments provided by the women's dorm. Community exchange will begin at nine, and Christmas cartoons will be shown in the third floor lounge of Simmons Hall provided by ASB. Plan ahead and take the evening off to get in the spirit of Christmas and reflect on why we are thankful for this holiday season! Senior Class at work Getting busier as the year progresses, the senior class is currently undergoing two fund raising projects. The first is a Christmas candy gram sale which began Wednesday, December 1. Candy grams are special notes with candy canes attached that each person cand send to his or her "special person." They cost only 25c and will be on sale in the alcove until December 17 from 9-11 and each day during lunch in the cafeteria. The other fund raising project is a See's candy sale. The suckers are 15c for one and 25c for two. For more information see Linda Koontz, Melody Keller, Yvonne Butner, or Ken Hornbeck. Due to the eight page special Christmas edition of the Banner there will be no issue, Fri. Dec. 10. The next issue will be Tues. Dec. 14. ASB Christmas Movies Upcoming. This Monday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. there will be a special chapel featuring "Gospel Seed," a Maranatha group from Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa. 'Gospel Seed" is Gary Lut- trell and Mike Moore who share in mellow, contemporary Christian music. A love offering will be taken. CSM's programs The traditional CSM ministry of the College Weekend Revival Team is being promoted this year through five teams (including alternate team members). For the first time in the school's history one ofthe teams is bilingual made up of Spanish-speaking students. Chairman of the Revival Team Committee is Curtis O'Brien. The CSM office also supports the ministry of three puppet teams directed by David Black. This type of ministry is steadily increasing in recognition and performance demand is making the formation of another team necessary. The current teams are already booked solid through the first ofthe year. Engagements can also be arranged for two music groups: Divine Love and Voices of Love. Divine Love, led by Don Bowers and Craig Shimusaki, presents an easy listening program of music along with preaching and testimony. Voices of Love, directed by Percy Hall, is a large mixed ensemble of some twenty-five members. They offer a variety of spiritual music, traditional, contemporary, vocal, and instrumental. Two forms of dramatic presentations are offered through Images, a drama team led by Jannie Crisp, . and mimist, Bill McNeil. Engagements such as weekend revivals, concerts, associational youth rallies, retreats, fellowships, and conferences are welcome.
