CALIFORNIA BAPTIST COLLEG-E, RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA VOL. 1 — No. 7 RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA MARCH 1, 1957 Trouveres On Music Tour Of Southland Tuesday morning, the Trouveres departed on their annual concert tour. They are traveling over Southern California and will return on the sixth of March. Each of the fourteen members was in high spirit and ready for the publicity trip. Before leaving, the members were divided into prayer partners in order to pray for a safe and successful tour. Traveling is done by day and performances are held each night with the exception of a three-performance stop on Sunday, March 3. A special "fun-top" will be made at the famous Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. This stop has become a tradition-experience with the singers. After their return from the extensive trip, the Trouveres will fulfill local appointments in preparation for the spring recital. Curtis Cheek, director, has pre- (Continued on page 4) REGISTRATION FALLS; 241 SPRING ENTRIES Latest tallies from the office of C. A. Butler, registrar, show that 241 students have enrolled for the spring semester at California Baptist College. Last semester, the campus sported 266 students. "Enrollment usually drops for the spring semester," comments Mr. Butler, "so it is nothing to worry about." Leading the field with the number of students, the freshman class boasts 104 members, while its nearest competitor, the sophomore class, is composed of 67. The junior class consists of 42 faithful students and the senior class trails the pack with only 25 members. There are five attending as special students. JONES, WELLS TO REIGN DURING GAY 'FESTUM REGALIS' MARCH 8 Starting at noon on Friday, March 8, a luncheon will be held on the south patio to entertain CBC's 1956-57 Royal Court. Dewey Jones and Jo Ann Wells will reign over the festivities as campus queen while Bryan Smith and Jo Jones attend as Mr. and Miss CBC. This annual event will have an Old English setting to coincide with the title of the festivities, "Festum Regalis." Gay activities and entertain- for everyone attending will continue throughout the afternoon until the royal banquet in the evening. Following the banquet that will be held in the cafeteria, the royal court and all their guests will retire to the chapel where the official crowning of the pair will take place. After the coronation, a reception for the entire royal court will be given in the library. "We have many committees working on the various phases of the coronation activities," states Jane Bridges, student director, "and I am sure that this occasion will be enjoyed by everyone who attends." Class favorites make up the rest of the royal court. These are: senior class, Tom Nowlin and Carol Hunter; junior class, Clayton Quattlebaum and Doris Ann Bacon; sophomore class, Wallace Beasley and Barbara Sims; freshman class, George Phillips and Gayle Brian. o Y. W. A. HOUSEPARTY The Ann Haseltine Young Woman's Auxiliary of California Baptist College hosted the 1957 Southern California Y.W.A. houseparty. "Golden Opportunities — There is no End," was the theme chosen for the Golden Anniversary year. Members of the hosting Y.W.- A.'s, all dressed in fashions of the early 1900's, greeted their guests with friendliness as registration began at 1:00 o'clock Friday afternoon. The program began that evening in the college chapel with a prayer and singing. Dr. P. Boyd Smith, President of the college, then brought a few words of greeting and Mrs. Max Smith and the Y.W.A.'s gave the Golden Opportunities — Through Earning a Citation. Special music was furnished by Nelda Culpepper, Lois Goebel, and Nita Webb. Mrs. Carlos Correon presented Golden Opportunities—As a Missionary. (Continued on page 4) "BAPTIST LIFE" On Campus We have one organization at CBC that you may not know about. It is a group made up of Baptist Life Insurance Policyholders. There are 16 members in this chapter. The Baptist Life Association makes a quarterly contribution to aid in the carrying on of student activities. Mr. Henry Doerr, 85 West 17th Street, Upland, California, is the district representative. He is on the campus each week contacting and fellowshipping with the students.
