Obtains New Equipment For Use in Gass Demonstrations Recently the science department has received some new equipment which will be used mainly for the purpose of demonstration in classroom projects. Included in this shipment were articles that the science department needed two or three years ago such as: beakers, flasks, thistle tubes, gas bottles, rubber stoppers, buretis, fused for measuring amounts of acid) and a mortar and pestle. "Th:ngs are looking much better than, they ever have before," comment:; Le Vern Young, head of the scieiace department, "but what the science departjnent really needs is a pl^ce to call its own." Besides the glass articles received, there were also asbestos pads, clamps, a tripod, and a test tube rack. . . It is hoped in the future tbr>t the department can be moved away from the main building. This is the information given by the A.S.B. committee in charge of the nnnual Yule festival to be held December 13. Rachel Bridges is the head of the committee and she has helping her Lois Goebel, Joella Howery, and La Wanda Carlisle. This year's banquet, though still on the drawing boards, is to be one with an international theme. The banquet will be held in the dining hall with the program in the chapel afterwards. The highlight of this portion of the program will be a short dramatic feature by the Drama department which has been promised to be in keeping with the international theme. Taking office en November 1, Dr. Thomas WMttier Medearis is now acting p.?esMent of California Baptist College. After being without an executive head from June of this year when IH-. P. Eayd Smith left, CBC called Dr. Medearis who had been president cf tlieJJoard of Trustees since December of 1950. Most students remember him as pastor of the Magnolia Avenue Baptist' chare!- w.Mcli, wlseja he was called to pastor there, was running about 0 SO in Sunday School and these •re mostly students. Now they ve their own building and prop- a an EfifX^C B ffi CC' #"*IU ''■■ ESS-' On November 14, the CBC choir traveled to March Air Force Base to sing at a Protestant prenehing mission. They sang at two different chapels. The first chapel began at seven o'clock and wag held in a very plain building, which was located in the housing area of the base. Both military and civilian families attended the chapel, as it was not located on the immediate base. The second chapel was located on the base and there the choir sang at 8 o'clock. This chapel was attended mostly by military families and personnel. The songs, "God So Loved the World" and "Onward, Christian Soldiers," were the featured songs presented at both chapel meetings. Mrs. Helen Walker played for the first chapel and the accompaniment was supplied by the base for the second chapel. --0 '■ — BSU Honors International Students At Breakfast The Baptist Student Union Thanksgiving Breakfast which honored the international students was held this morning at 7:00 a.m. in the cafeteria. After the breakfast there was a brief meditation period, putting special emphasis on Thanksgiving. Congregational singing, poems, and " (Continued on pajre 4) Dr. Medearis has been in California since January 1, 19^5, when he was called to speak at the Evangelistic Conference in Fresno. Before this time from 1942 to '54, he was the Executive Secretary of the Missouri Baptist Convention. He was also president of the Board of Trustees at Oklahoma Baptist University for five years. In 11)36, Dr. Medearis received his Doctor of Divinity degree from OGU. A t the same time he was getting his degree, he was also pastoring the First Baptist church in Miami, Oklahoma. From William Jewell College, Missouri, he received an achievement citation in 1944 on their annual achievement day in which three outstanding people of the nation are honored. He was the first preacher ever to receive this citation. Later in 1953, he was also honored from the same institution with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. Serving for eight years on the Foreign Mission Board, Dr. Medearis visited much of Europe, Palestine, Syria, and other lands between 1934-'42. In the teaching realm, he was head of the Bible Department at Southwest Baptist College, Bolivar, Missouri for. three years. In 1930 he was vice-president of the Oklahoma Baptist Convention. ; (Continued on paere 2}
