'CALIFORNIA BAPflST COLLEG-E, RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA Volume II—No. 5 Student Publication December 18, 1957 Baptist Student Union Sells Stock To Promote Newly Oganlzed Hawaii-Alaska Enterprises Sponsored by the Baptist Student Union's summer mission's program, a new company called the Hawaii-Alaska Enterprises has now been organized. To promote and enlarge this new company, the members of the BSU Greater Council are selling shares at fifty cents per share, which the stewardship committee, under the direction of their chairman* Jim Leeman, has worked very hard ' ~o——-t—-— " getting ready to sell. The stock which is preferred, is on sale at the present time, and will be on sale for an indefinite length of time. By purchasing this stock, you will be buying a share of our summer missionaries' time and you will also be helping in the Lord's work this summer. ' FELLOWS, GALS COMBIME FOR GALA DORM SOCIAL A fireplace, the chilly air, carols, games, white elephant gifts, and refreshments, each played a very important part in the Christmas social which was held December 16, in the dining hail and the chapel. Under the leadership of Faye Nelms and Ed Hammond, the two dormitories combined their socials into on a gay, festive event. It started in the' dining hall where games were played and refreshments were served. Everyone was surprised when the girls received the boys' white elephant gifts and the boys received the girls'. Next, everyone adjourned to go and sing Christmas carols around the rest home. After a little while, everybody went into the chapel where more carols were sung and a reading was given by Mrs. Olie T. Brown. Singing' of Carols Presented in Chapel A special music program was presented in the chapel period today featuring group singing of familiar carols by the student body. The college choir presented "Carols of the Bells", an old Uk- ranean carol; "I Wonder as I Wander," an Appalachian carol; and "O, Holy Night" by Adolf Adams as arranged by B. B. McKinney. Also featured was selected quartet specials and solos. The Les Chanterres, formerly known as the Girls' Ensemble, presented special music for the loyalty dinner of Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church on December 5. A medley of three Christmas corols composed the presentation. o— CALENDAR OF EVENTS December ID-January 1—Christmas' Holidays ■ December 29—Student night at Christmas in the churches January 4—Ministerial Alliance and Ministerial Alliance Auxiliary meets January 6—Life Service Band meets January 6-10—Volunteer Summer Service Work January 9—Thespian meeting January 1317—Dead Week January 16—Election of Campus King and Queen o Yule Festival Culminates CBC Christmas Season Culminating the yule season was the annual Yule Festival last Friday which was advertised as the biggest event of the season; went under the name of Joyeux Noel; and had the theme of Christmas Around the World. Mr. J. L. Harden, CBC business manager, acted as master of ceremonies. After the dinner the group went to the chapel where the remainder of the program was emceed by Danny Brown. There was a solo by Mrs. Helen Walker and a reading given by Mrs. Sybil Brown. Marilyn Wells and Martin Schlue- tor sang a duet, Shirley Norton • played her violin, and Mrs. Davis' drama group did a short play. The decorations for the evening were in keeping with the global theme and prominent in the decorations was the poinsettia. Lois Goebel was the program chairman, Marilyn Wells headed publicity, La Wanda Carlisle was in charge of the banquet, and Jo- Ella Howery was the head of the decorations committee. Halls, Chapels Dessraf 3d By Classes fm Judging In keeping with the theme, "Christmas Around the World," the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes undertook to decorate various places in the hall and chapel to give the campus a feeling of Christmas. The freshman class placed a manger scene in the hall outside the .library, the sophomores decorated the stage with a Christmas tree and other implements suggesting different nationalities, the juniors decorated the fireplace and. hung a large plaque saying Joy to the World above it, and the senior class presented a living room scene with a Christmas tree in the lounge by the business office.
