CALIFORNIA BAPTI5T COLLEG-E, RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA Vol.II No. 9 Student Publication Thursday, March 6, 1958 MEW«»0¥ Rare Book of 17th Century Displayed In California Baptist College Library A rare, old book probably dating back to the Seventeenth Century is on display in the California Baptist College Library. This book was found in the walls of a very old house in Maine. It has a name and the date of 1785, but its spelling is that of early King James version of the Bible which was published in 1620 and it is a religious history of great interest. The author is very pointed in his criticism of Catholicism and exhorts his readers to follow the Bible alone when religious teachings contradict the teachings of the Bible. "We are privileged to display this rare item through the corutesy of Bill Ryan, one of the students at California Baptist College," comments Mrs. Brown, Librarian. It is believed that this book would be of great interest to all of the students at CBC and that all students should see it while it is on display here. It was pointed out by Mr. Cummins that to be a chaplain in the Armed Forces takes 120 hours of college credits plus 90 theological hours. There is also a requirement of either four years part time pastorate or two years full time pastorate. There was an emphasis given to the fact that the 400 Baptist chaplains baptized as many new converts as one state convention of 2100 churches and 15C0 ministers. Not only does the~chaplaincy include the military service but it also includes hospitals, mental institutions, and penal institutions. One important thing about the chaplaincy was the fact, as given by Mr. Cummins, that a person has to be called of God into this type of service. Also visiting with him was Staff Chaplain Pennington of March Air Force Base. Thespians to Present dumber of Small Plays Presenting more plays this semester than were presented last year will be the Thespians Club, under the direction of Mrs. Jeanne Davis. Several one act plays will be presented on Senior Day, April 19, which will be directed by students from the drama class. Mrs. Davis will be the faculty director of these play productions. Some people have felt that having senior day on a Friday is not a good idea but this special note will help clear up matters. If you know someone that is interested in senior day at CBC, please pass this information on to them so they can see their school counselors about it.
