8 ANN 8432 MAGNOLIA AVENUE RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA Vol. VI, No. 5 Student Publication March 2, 1960 EDITORIAL Speaking en the Youth Conference theme — "His Way;—Mine!", Dr. Frei L. Fisher of the Golden Gate Seminary brought a most inspiring message at the second annual meeting in Long Beach. Later on, W. C. Harrell led a panel discussion on Personal Problems of Youth. Audience participation was encouraged through written questions handed to the ushers. The panel was composed of Dr. Loyed R. Simmons, Gregory Walcott, Dr. Richard Poss, Miss Josephine Pile, Mrs. Joseph Daniel, and Miss Beverly DeWitt. I had been aware that teenagers and ycung people had problems, but the caliber of the questions turned in literally left me speechless. The depth and seriousness of the problems turned in actually opened mv eyes. In the following paragraph I will quote a few. These questions have not been changed or re-worded. "How can a young saved person bring their parents, who are not saved to know the Jesus?" "Why do older people call us 'care-free?' We have our problems too." "Should a Christian mother force her child to become Christian?" "What can we, as young people, do about the narcotics problems?" "Someone has surrendered to preach, he has been licensed for two years, and is now in college studying. The girl he dates is a fine Christian girl but is of a different denomination. What should he do?" "Why don't parents understand them?" "What should a person in a non-religious and Christian family do?" The questions were numerous concerning smoking, dancing, dating, and mixed marriages. What can we do for the youth of today? Think about it. Every one of those questions quoted above stems from a problem in family life. If we lay down on the job nothing will be done. But if, with God's guidance and leadership, we study and prepare ourselves, we wi',1 have opportunities in future places of responsibility to help young people find answers to these problems. The second lecture, on Tuesday, was open to the public. This series of lectures is to be an annual affair and known as the Bracewell Lectures. Judge Bracewell said that he would be available next year. The Broadway Plan of Church Finance, which has been used in Texas and California, as well as other states, was originated by Judge Brace- well. He also has loaned money to beginning churches, and he and his wife and sons gave $10,000 in 1958 and $1,000 this year to the Annie Gabriel Library. Mrs. Bracewell accompanied her husband on this trip to California. They attended the State Sunday School Convention in Long Beach before coming to CBC. and drunkeness, not in clambering and wantoness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh to fulfil the lusts thereof." (Romans 13: 11-14). What does the Lord Jesus Christ really mean to us? The day or night that we accepted Him, He was our Redeemer, Savior, and Friend. God's love so engulfed us that Jesus was Everything, our all in all. But through the years, the months, day by day, and even hour by hour, what has Christ come to mean to us — right now? Someone has said, "When Jesus was here, Ke said to His disciples, 'Follow Me,' and the rest of us have been sitting around ever since discussing what He meant." It is time for us to realize that Christ is alive and s-eaks to us even as to His disciples. If Christ is to become alive and real we must say, "Lord Jesus, here is my life, do as you please with me." The Holy Spirit takes over from there to teach us all things. He gives life and quickens the soul. If there will be anything worthwhile in our lives, it will be when God's Soirit leads us. It is then and only then that we are "In Quest of the Best."
