\> Vol. 10 No. 15 Student Publication May 10, 1965 EDITORS CHOSEN At the Faculty Publications Committee meeting, held Thursday May 6, the Editors and Assistant Editors of the Angelos and Banner, as well as the Business Manager of the Angelos were chosen. Each of the applicants for the various offices were called in for a personal interview with the Committee; after which the selections were announced by Chairman of the Committee, Dean John Max Cox. Editorship of the Angelos, the College yearbook, went to Miss Bonnie Taylor (Bonnie was the Business Manager of the yearbook this year). For Assistant Editor the Committee selected Mrs. Glen Fitzgerald (Joyce has been Editor of the Banner), and Mike Wilson was chosen as Business Manager. Sam Appleby was chosen as Editor of the Banner (Sam has been Assistant Editor of the paper this year). Miss Kathy Greenwood and Mrs. Joanne Hann were chosen as Assistant Editors (both Kathy and Joanne have worked on the staff of the Banner as well as other campus newspapers). The Publications Committee would like to thank all those who applied, and stated that it was sorry all who did apply could not have been chosen. Anyone who wishes to join "the staff of either the Angelos or the Banner is heartily encouraged to do so by contacting the respective Editors, or the Office of Public Re- lations. A.S.B. ELECTION Up until the time of this writing, Thursday afternoon, the Dean of Students office reported that 245 students had already cast their ballots. This total added to the one expected Friday, will run approximately 350 votes cast. During the past week-and-a-half the halls have been plastered with posters for every office from President to Cheerleader. Comments have been overheard that this has been the most enthusiatic campaign in CBC's short history. THOMPSON NAMED NEXT BSU HEAD As the fall semester of 1965 comes to a close, the Baptist Student Union of CBC is already making plans for the coming school year. For several weeks a committee worked diligently to prepare a list of nominees for BSU offices. The names were posted and elections held, with three offices having write- in candidates. Those elected were: President—Randy Thompson Evangelism Chairman—Ray Young Church Enlistment Chairman- Wayne Martindale Secretary-Tres.—Shirley Kanno Worship Chairman—Clyde Horn Vespers Chairman—Tim Shaw Ed. Chairman—Kathy Greenwood Summer Missions Chairman— Geno Robinson Missions Chairman —Eddie Hill- house. Social Chairman-Phyllis Kirby Communications Chairman—Sarah Adams Faculty Advisor—J. Daniel Vann These people will take office on May 14th at the BSU installation banquet. All BSU members are invited to this function, which will be held at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church. Of special interest to all Baptist students is the fact that Ray Young, outgoing president, was elected at the Spring Retreat at Hume Lake, as State BSU President. RUSSIAN PRISI0NER SPEAKS On Monday evening, April 26, a special program was featured on campus when the A.S.B. presentedguest- speaker Peter Landerman. Mr. Lan- derman has just returned from Russia where he spent several months in prison as a result of an automobile accident. He brought a splendid testimonial to those in attendance as he told of religious and spiritual conditions in Russia. An interesting fact he noted was that children were not seen in the worship services as the spiritual training of the child is con- "Christian in Society" Theme of Forum "The Role of the Christian College in Today's Society" was the topic of discussion for a student- teacher forum held on April 26 in the college chapel. The purpose of this discussion, sponsored by the newly- formed Human Relations Club was: "To discuss the responsibility of the Christian college in the Twentieth Century, the role of the student and teacher, and the problems of student and teacher in Christian education." Panel members, drawn from the faculty and the student body, were Mrs. Genevieve Thompson, Instructor of Psychology; Mrs. Jeanne Davis, Assistant Professor of Speech-Drama; Mr. John Max Cox, Dean of Men and Director of Public Relations; Dr. Le Vern B. Young, Professor of Science; Molly Moore; Art Goodrow; John Poston; Doug Farmer; and Barrett Lampp. Orval Warren, senior, served as moderator. The six questions used as the basis for discussion were: (1) What is the idea of freedom of expression in the Christian college? (2) What is "Christian culture" as expressed in our college? (3) What is the role and purpose of the administration? (4) What is the responsibility of the Christian teacher? (5) What is the responsibility of the Christian student? (6) What is the college's responsibility to the community? The last portion of the program was opened to questions from the floor, It is estimated that approximately fifty faculty and student body members were present in the audience. sidered to be a responsibility of the home. A major concern he expressed for these people and others in this part of the world was the lack of Bibles or even Scriptures written in their language. Because ofthis concern, Mr. Landerman hopes to become a translator for the Wycliffe Bible Society.
