Vol. XIII, No. 13 Published by the Associated Student Body March 29, 1968 Goo. Romney Remoued from Choice '68 Ballot The name of Governor George Romney has been removed from the CHOICE 68 ballot. The project's Board of Directors decided that Romney's abrupt decision of February 28 that he intended to withdraw from the presidential race, left them with little alternative but to comply with the spirit of the Governor's announcement. Romney's departure from the race reduces the number of CHOICE 68 candidates to thirteen. The Governor's political philosophy of moderate liberalism, however, remains well represented in the candidacies of other individuals on the ballot. "It's A Small World" Theme Selected for Coronation Peggy Estes ASB Second vice- president has announced that the Coronation is to be changed from Friday, April 19th, as scheduled on the ASB calendar, to Saturday, April 20th. The Coronation will be held at Arrowhead Springs Hotel, headquarters for the World-wide Campus Crusade For Christ Association. The theme for the event will be "It's a Small World," carrying through with the "world" emphasis theme for the year. The Homecoming Parade was entitled "Stop the World, We Want to Get On." As the highlight of the spring semester, the school will honor King Will Brown and Queen Peggy Estes and the class favorites. From the seniors are Mike Goodwin and Ginger Hatchie. The juniors elected Steve Brown and Neta Hendricks; the sophomores, Dennis Grace and Seleta Jones, and the freshmen, Don Peratt and Jan Phillips. Janice McCamey is planning decorations; Connie Murphy the posters; John Cooper is in charge of the program, and Peggy Estes is arranging for the publicity. Tickets go on sale soon, and will cost $4 each. Baptist Big-Wigs Visit Campus For Denominational Dialogue Thirteen denominational leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention visited the Cal Baptist campus Wednesday to carry on "Denominational Dialogues" — an attempt to find out what the youth of the nation think of the various programs of the Convention. The confrontation between the denominational leaders and the students began at ten o'clock in the College Chapel hour. Including discussions in classes where they were invited, the leaders were kept busy answering questions and listening to suggestions all day. In some of the afternoon sessions there was some spirited discussion of the value of the entire program system. There seemed to be considerable feeling among both students and denominational leaders that there is too much dependence on the national and state level of organization for guidance in the local church situations. A Nieport, Rowland Honored by Circle K Club March 20 George Nieport, Riverside Ki- wanis Club member, has been honored by Cal Baptist's Circle K Club. The club's newly created service Award has been named the "George Nieport Service and Achievement Award." This announcement came as a surprise to the man who helped organize the Circle K Club on campus, and who serves the club in an advisory capacity. First recipient of the award was Stan Rowland, a senior from Anaheim. This year Stan is Yearbook editor, and has helped Coach Aycock publicize athletic events for the college. In chapel March 20, Wayne Martindale presented the award and recognized Stan Rowland for his leadership in the club and his many contributions to the college community. The recipient of this award will receive dinner for two in one of Riverside's restaurants, and also flowers for his date from the Riverside Flower shop, located in the downtown mall. CHAPEL PROGRAMS. April 3 Dr. Simmons April 5 Dr. Simmons April 10 Mr. Tom Lee April 17 European Trip Report considerable amount of time was devoted to discussion of freedom for innovation and creativity. The general theme of the entire day was "What do you want our denomination to be like in the 1970's?" The programs of the different sessions consisted of two two- minute speeches by the visitors with the remainder of the time devoted to questions and comments by the students. The last session of the dialogue on campus was at the five o'clock dinner hour. However, the dialogues continued off-campus at Palm Baptist Church and Magnolia Ave. Baptist Church in the evening. On the whole, student reaction seemed to be favorable regarding the day's venture. One student said that the day's sessions had helped him realize that the denominational leaders weren't all bad anyway. cont. on page 4 Hermanos en Cristo Meet Tuesday to Discuss Trip Hermanos en Cristo will discuss its upcoming trip to LaMesa, Tijuana, at its next meeting, Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. in room 125.
